Tasting Notes: Simultaneously sweet and complex, this coffee weaves together cherry cola, berry and citrus notes, apple blossom florals and maximum sweetness.

This coffee is more than the sum of its flavour notes. Vanilla, cola, raspberry, cherry, a hint of lemon, and delicate fruit blossom weave together so seamlessly that it’s hard to separate them—and honestly, why try? It’s best to simply sit back and savour the experience.

John Gely Ruano Acosta grew up helping his father farm coffee but later relocated his young family to Huila, where he established Finca La Fortuna. Unlike most farms in Colombia, where coffee is grown in monoculture, John has brought biodiversity and shade trees to his land. “Our coffee is made with love and resilience,” he says. “It’s the fruit of adapting, learning and pushing forward to a better future.”

After six years of working in specialty coffee, John’s efforts are starting to pay off. He’s been able to provide a better quality of life for his family, renovating their home and affording a higher standard of living. HIs future goals include expanding his coffee drying facilities, buying a vehicle to transport his coffee and further improving his home.

Finca La Fortuna is set apart by John’s investment in biodiversity and the varieties he’s chosen to grow, including Pacamara and this one, Pink Bourbon. Colombian Pink Bourbon is a darling of the specialty coffee industry because of its exceptional flavour, but it also has an interesting origin story. Read more about that in our blog, What’s so Special About Pink Bourbon?, which we wrote to mark the release of the first Pink Bourbon we roasted in 2024.

A note about packaging

Our coffee comes packaged in beautiful and hard wearing tins. It is important to keep those beans away from air and light (see our blog post about coffee storage) and we think tins are the very best way of keeping those guys fresh.

Tins can of course be easily recycled (with other metals) but the very best and most environmentally conscious thing to do with them is to refill them. Find out how to refill or dispose of your Steampunk packaging HERE.
